The Arc’s Recreation Department offers a wide variety of sporting, cultural and social activities each season.

Overnight Trip
African Getaway
Join us for a taste of Africa on our visit to one of the Poconos newest resorts. We have planned an exotic weekend at the Kalahari Resort in Pennsylvania this fall. We will be staying in spacious suites to provide ample space for socializing. The numerous activities offered at the resort include a large arcade and family entertainment center adjacent to their indoor water park with several restaurants and bars on site for evening enjoyment. Our days will be filled with exploring the local area such as shopping at Crossings Outlet Mall, hiking Bushkill Falls or gambling at Mount Airy Casino. This will be a fun filled weekend for everyone to enjoy.

Summer Recreation Programs
Fitness: Dancersize
Under the guidance of Randi Rae, you will have the opportunity to lose weight and become healthy while having a fun workout with your friends. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water to each class.

Fitness: Yoga
Join our certified yoga instructor for a low energy workout this spring. Kelly will focus on gentle movement, breathing techniques, and relaxation to help disconnect from the stresses of life. No experience is required. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water.

Beginner-Intermediate GolfGolf 2
This program includes 10 weeks of instruction and guidance through our volunteers and the golf pro on site. You will practice in different locations including the driving range, putting green and the mini-golf course. The intermediate golfers will also have the opportunity to play on the 3 par golf course. This program will prepare you for the Special Olympics competition for the athletes who are interested.

GolfAdvanced Golf
This is an instructional program that focuses on improving your game and preparing for competition. Michelle will provide 45 minutes of instruction of special skills such as full swing, chipping, pitching, bunker shots and trouble shots, and putting. The other 45 minutes will be spent working on the golf course. This program will prepare you for the Special Olympics competition for the athletes who are interested.

Golf for the fun of it!
Twin Brook Golf Center is the place to be on Monday nights. Come have fun and play on their beautiful mini-golf course. This program meets twice a month in the summer with a mini-golf tournament the last week. Join in on the fun with all of our other golfers on site!

bowling.fwSummer Bowling League
We are offering a new bowling program this summer! This 9 week program will be held on Saturday afternoons at Airport Plaza in Hazlet and will be open to any bowlers!

Crafts, Cooking & Candy
Join us for our Crafts, Cooking & Candy class this summer! Through this 6 week class you will have the opportunity to make candy, learn a few simple recipes and create a few different crafts! Let’s get ready for a new season and create!

Broadcast Club
The Broadcast Club is back for another year of theater and fun with our enthusiastic leader, Colleen Finnegan from Enspirited Productions. Colleen will provide several months of instruction in acting and dance while building creativity and confidence throughout the process. This year we will be putting on our first full play, Bugsy Malone! Based on the 1976 film, with gangsters and flappers, this will be one show that you do not want to miss out on!

Blockbuster Movie Night
We will be having two Blockbuster Movie Nights where we will watch a movie and have pizza for dinner at The Arc Center. Snacks and drinks will also be provided throughout the night.

PNC Concert: Dolly Parton – Pure and Simple Tour
This outdoor summer concert provides a great evening of live music and entertainment for everyone to enjoy. We will be sitting in uncovered seats and going rain or shine. Please bring money for snacks and souvenirs that you may want during the show.

Colts Nepawprintsck Pet Fair
Join us in Colts Neck for the annual Colts Neck Pet Fair. We will have the opportunity to see a variety of dogs, horses, birds, etc. compete in different competitions, shows and demonstrations throughout the day. The organization who is hosting the event will be collecting money or canned/bagged dog or cat food as donations for anyone who would like to contribute. Bring money for snacks.

Thursday by the Sea
Join us for an evening of dinner and music by the ocean! We will be having dinner at Chili’s followed by a concert on the boardwalk in Pier Village. Please bring a chair or blanket for the concert, as well as money you wish to spend on snacks on the boardwalk. The concert will be held inside if there is inclement weather.

Red Bank Movie in the Park
Red Bank offers movies in Riverside Park with a fabulous view of the Navesink River. We will grab dinner and stroll the streets of Red Bank before heading over to the park for the movie. Please bring a blanket to sit on.

Baseball season is back! Come support our local Blue Claws baseball team for a summer evening game with some great company. You may meet at FirstEnergy Park if you do not need transportation. Please bring money for snacks and souvenirs.

Grease Live
Grease Live will be playing on the big screen at The Arc Center this summer! We will be serving pizza for dinner and an ice cream buffet for dessert. Last minute registrations are welcome, please call at least 24 hours in advance.

Fun at the Fort
Spend a day with us for some fun at The Fort! The Fort Monmouth Recreation Center has a game room with pool tables, ping pong, foosball, air hockey and more! Along with time in the game room, we will spend some time in their outdoor pool and play games like volleyball and corn hole. Please bring a towel and a change of clothing if you plan on swimming as well as money for snacks.

Weltz ParkWeltz Park Hike
Join us and a Monmouth County Park Naturalist for a leisurely walk on the well-maintained trails of Weltz Park in Ocean. You will get exercise, learn about nature and local parks and enjoy the company of others. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.

Atlantic City Bus Trip
We are doing a summer day trip down to Atlantic City for a day at the beach, gambling at one of their famous casinos and shopping down the boardwalk. There will be a supervised option and a non-supervised option. For those who choose the supervised option, you will be provided a chaperone at a 4 to 1 ratio. For those who choose the non-supervised option, you will be on your own for the day without any supervision from The Arc of Monmouth. Bring money for lunch, gambling, shopping and games on the boardwalk. The supervised group will be having lunch at Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville.

Wii Competition
Come test your bowling skills at this friendly night of competition! We will have multiple Wii’s set up on the big screens here at The Arc Center. We will also have board games and other activities available. Pizza will be served for dinner.

We will be taking a guided tour through the Thomas Edison Museum to learn about the history and significance of Thomas Edison’s accomplishments. After the museum we will have dinner at the Rainforest Café.

Tuesday Night Social
Socialize with friends, play board games, or dance the night away! Must be 15 and up to participate.

Office Hours
The Recreation Department office hours are from 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. The office phone is 732-493-0225.

Change of Address/Phone Number/Other Information
If you have moved or changed your phone number, please let us know. It is important that the Recreation Department is kept up-to-date in order to provide you with the best possible service. Download and fill out a new Personal Information Form. Personal Information Forms are good for 2 years.

Transportation
Limited transportation is available for some of the special events for those individuals who do not have any means of transportation. There is a small fee for transportation when available.

Inclement Weather
In the event of poor or questionable weather, call our office for updated information. Our number is (732) 493-0225. When the program is cancelled, a message will be left no later than 1 1/2 hours prior to the activity. If the agency closes for the day, the evening recreation programs are automatically cancelled.

Cancellations
If fewer than the minimum participants register for a program, it may be cancelled. A program reimbursement or credit slip will be issued. Refunds are NOT guaranteed for any program. If the individual cancels for a program, he or she must give at least (3) three days’ notice for a refund. Please note that in the event of a cancellation, we may not be able to refund your money.

Volunteers
Volunteers are always welcome and needed. If you are interested in helping out with Recreation programming and events please call the office at (732) 493-0225 or download the volunteer registration form and mail it to us.

Janice Colondrillo Recreation Fund
Janice Colondrillo, a member of The Arc of Monmouth and the daughter of Winter Glow Ball Committee members, passed away in September 2007. Janice enjoyed many recreational activities and loved to travel with her family. With this in mind, these recreational funds were developed in memory of Janice. Please consider donating to this fund to help Janice’s friends attend recreation events!
