Scrabble by the Sea History

SCRABBLE by the SEA was developed in 2011 with the goal of providing a unique fundraiser in support of The Arc of Monmouth, which supports over 1,400 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  One aspect about this “fun”draiser is that it does not exclude anyone – it was designed to welcome all SCRABBLE enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.  Various divisions are available to make every player feel comfortable.

The tournament was created and organized by SCRABBLE enthusiasts Jason Keller and Brett Colby.   Mr. Keller comes a wealth of information about best practices for a SCRABBLE tournament, while Mr. Colby handles day to day organization of the event.  Together, they hope to grow SCRABBLE by the SEA into something of a brand name.

In its first year, the tournament gained notoriety and great media attention.   Now entering its third  year, the hopes are to double attendance with the goal of 200 players at The Berkeley Hotel on Saturday, October 12, 2013.    Click Here to Register!

The first SCRABBLE by the SEA event occurred on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel in Asbury Park, NJ.  70 players helped to raise $6,000 for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   The 2nd Annual occurred on September 29, 2012, with almost 100 players, raising over $9,000.
