The “Step Up for The Arc” Walk began as a statewide collaboration between New Jersey chapters of The Arc. For many years, The Arc of Monmouth’s event was held in Liberty Park II, Tinton Falls, near The Arc Center.
In 2013, The Arc of Monmouth and the entire NJ coastline were grappling to recover from the effects of Superstorm Sandy. To illustrate resiliency, the event was moved to the Asbury Park Boardwalk and included a 5k run. The run and the new location helped to grow the event to what it is today – one of The Arc of Monmouth’s most important fundraisers, attracting over 500 people and raising over $50,000 annually to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The event featured:
- a spectacular motorcycle display from local motorcycle enthusiasts
- a performance by Shore Regional High School Marching Band
- music by DJ Billy
- breakfast and lunch catered by the Freemasons of the 17th District and Wegman’s of Manalapan
